In a strongly-worded post on Twitter, Ratan Tata condemned the killing of a pregnant elephant in Kerala.
Veteran industrialist Ratan Tata condemned the killing of a pregnant elephant in Kerala during a post on Twitter and said that he's "shocked". Locals in Malappuram fed a pineapple crammed with explosives to the elephant last week. The animal endured the wrath of unbearable pain as she died standing during a river.
In his note, Ratan Tata demanded justice for the elephant and said that "such criminal acts" against animals are "no different than acts of meditated murder" against humans.
"I am grieved and shocked to understand that a bunch of individuals caused the death of an innocent, passive, pregnant elephant by feeding the elephant with a pineapple crammed with firecrackers. Such criminal acts against innocent animals are not any different than acts of meditated murder against other humans. Justice must prevail," Ratan Tata said in his post.

The killing of the elephant sparked massive outrage on social media as celebrities also as sportspersons demanded stricter laws against animal cruelty.
The incident occurred while the elephant walked around a village in search of food. After locals fed her the pineapple, the firecrackers placed inside the fruit burst within the elephant's mouth. Thereafter, she walked round the village, hungry but unable to eat due to the injury in her mouth. Irrespective of her pain, she didn't cause disruption within the area.
In order to scale back her pain, she stood within the Velliyar river. Forest officials noticed the elephant within the river and attempted to rescue her but it had been too late by then.
